A Caesar salad is how I like to warm up before the main course.

I very much enjoy a good Caesar salad when I go out to eat.   The dressing can be prepared in various ways and I prefer anchovy instead of Worcestershire sauce.   The anchovies provide a small “kick” to the taste buds.

I’ve had many varieties and have compiled a short list of restaurants that offer some of the best.

Ironwood Cafe – Southern Pines (They use anchovies)

Fatz Cafe

Carrabbas, Outback and Bonefish (owned by the same company)

A Caesar salad has romaine lettuce and croutons dressed with parmesan cheese, lemon juice, olive oil, egg, Worcestershire sauce (or anchovies), and black pepper.  Some salads are prepared with onions and tomatoes as shown in the photo above.

I once ordered a Caesar salad at an Italian restaurant and the waitress asked, ” what kind of dressing do you want?”  Yes, I laughed.
